چکیده

Lipophiles, including local and other general anesthetics, may partition into various locations of biological membranes, and the degree of partitioning depends upon various membrane properties including the electrostatics as well as the lipophile ionization state. Magnetic resonance methods such as spin-label electron spin resonance (ESR) and deuterium nuclear magnetic resonance (’H-NMR) each show spectral properties that can be exploited to identify the various locations of lipophiles in biomembranes as well as determine directly the ionization state of a lipophile while in the bilayer. In recent studies on nicotinic acetyl choline receptor (nAChR) rich membranes and protein-free model membranes, we suggest that:

Nuclear magnetic resonance-visible lipids induced by cationic lipophilic chemotherapeutic agents are accompanied by increased lipid droplet formation and damaged mitochondria.

Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, histological lipid staining, and electron microscopy were used to assess the biochemical and structural changes induced by treating the cultured human breast cell line HBL-100 with the cationic lipophilic phosphonium salts p-(triphenylphosphoniummethyl) benzaldehyde chloride (drug A) and [4-(hydrazinocarboxy)-1-butyl] tris-(4-dimethylaminoph...

Mechanistic studies of self emulsifying drug delivery systems for the oral delivery of lipophilic drugs

Introduction Oral drug delivery is a $35 billion dollar industry [1] and the most preferred way of drug administration. However, the oral route is not possible for 50% of currently marketed drug compounds due to their low solubility in water. Forty percent of prospective drugs coming out of discovery pipelines are lipophilic compounds, which leads to difficulty in achieving acceptable oral bioa...

Solution-Based Single-Molecule FRET Studies of K(+) Channel Gating in a Lipid Bilayer.

Ion channels are dynamic multimeric proteins that often undergo multiple unsynchronized structural movements as they switch between their open and closed states. Such structural changes are difficult to measure within the context of a native lipid bilayer and have often been monitored via macroscopic changes in Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) between probes attached to different parts ...

INVESTIGATIONS ON THE DRUG-PROTEIN IN TERAC TION OF CERTAIN NEW POTENTIAL LOCAL ANAESTHETICS

Generally, plasma proteins owe their binding capacity to the presence of aminoacid units which enter into intra- and intermolecular hydrophobic bonding with a diverse range of endo- and exogenous chemical substances. The intermolecular interactions between the hydrophobic areas of drug molecules and those of plasma proteins play an important role in drug-macromolecular complex formation and...

DNA Damages on Blood Cells After Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: Along with the increased use of cardiac imaging at clinics there is increased attention to the potential risks related to the methods used like magnetic resonance (MR) and it cannot be ruled out that MR can alter DNA structure. The aim of this review is to assess the impact of routine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scanning on DNA damages in human T lymphocytes....
